Joe's Car Car began in a little different
light than reflected today.
Joe used to have all of his tools loaded
into a 1981 Honda Accord hatchback. In
between his scheduled shifts of being a head
waiter at a busy Dallas restaurant, he would fix his
co-worker's and friend's cars. As time went on,
he had less time available to wait tables. In 1986,
Joe bought a newly arrived Toyota pickup at a
Grand Prairie salvage yard. Nothing had been
salvaged from it yet, it just needed a new motor.
A replacement motor and a "utility" bed were
installed, his tools were loaded, a three week
leave of absence was requested at the restaurant,
and Joe's Portable Automotive was born.
Joe's Portable Automotive was very
successful from 1986 until 1995. Joe fixed his
customer's cars at their homes and businesses, on
the side of the road, and even at Joe's house.
Then an interesting happened. While following
garage sale signs on a Saturday morning, Joe
ended up at a sale in a vacant section of a
warehouse. A warehouse with a roof and a
cement floor! Something he had not been
accustomed to working with. After a few
discussions with the owner, Joe reached an
agreement to use the building for automotive
repair. Hence, Joe's Car Care had begun. After
about 15 months, in August of 1996, We moved
from that small warehouse, to a larger facility
on Edgewood Street in Garland.
During the next 4 years Joe concentrated on
management, organization, and attaining the
state of the art equipment needed to provide
the services today's advanced vehicles require.
Meeting these goals prepared the way for the
next milestone in our growth. A building we
could call our own. Only one block away from
our previous address, our new building can actually
be seen from the road! That has not been the case
for the last 5 years. What a wonderful way to start
the new millennium. A slightly larger and a much
nicer place to call home.
After 5 and half years on Kirby Street, it's time for
the next page in the Joe's Car Care book to be turned.
A place in the country!
Joe and his family moved to Leonard, TX mid 2003.
Leonard is north and east of McKinney. This increased
Joe's drive from 4 miles to 50 miles. The drive itself
wasn't so bad, but the additional 3 hours away from
my wife and 4 young children was unacceptable. So,
we located and purchased a commercial property on Highway 69,
about a half
mile past the Leonard High School. In his "spare" time,
from June of 2004 to November of 2005,Joe constructed
his new automotive repair facility. We now have the
most modern and well equipped automotive shop for
miles around! Stop by to meet Joe and his staff, and
take a tour of our facility.
